How to Use the Autofit Column Width Shortcut in Excel

To use the Autofit Column Width shortcut in Excel, follow these steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Excel and navigate to the worksheet containing the columns you want to autofit.

  2. Select the column or columns that you want to adjust the width for. You can select multiple columns by holding down the Ctrl key while clicking on the column headers.

  3. Press the Alt key on your keyboard and while holding it down, press the H key (Alt + H). This will activate the Home tab in the Excel ribbon.

  4. Release the Alt key and then press the O key (Alt + H, O). This will open the Format menu.

  5. Within the Format menu, press the I key (Alt + H, O, I). This will select the "Autofit Column Width" option.

  6. Press the Enter key to apply the Autofit Column Width command to the selected column(s).

Excel will automatically adjust the column width to fit the widest content within the selected column(s). This can be especially useful when you have lengthy text or numbers that are getting cut off in the cells. By using the Autofit Column Width shortcut, you can quickly resize the columns to display the full content without manual adjustment.

Note: The shortcut sequence provided here is for Excel on Windows. If you are using Excel on a Mac, the specific shortcut keys may be different, but the general process of accessing the Autofit Column Width command is similar.
